Emily Johnson, LPC Associate, joined the Center for Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies in September 2023.
She attended Texas State University, completing her undergraduate studies in Elementary Education. After graduation, she worked as a preschool, elementary school, and outdoor education teacher before having children. She returned to school to earn her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University in 2023.
While working towards her master’s degree, Emily had the opportunity to work as a group second at the Center for Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, where she first saw the benefits of DBT. She also completed the DBT Skills Introduction through Behavioral Tech and the necessary courses through Postpartum Support International for certification in perinatal mental health. Emily completed her master’s internship at Usawa Wellness Services, where she worked primarily with clients with personality disorders, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and perinatal mental health disorders. She implemented a DBT skills group and a mindfulness group during her time at Usawa.
Emily is currently pursuing her DBT Foundational Training with Behavioral Tech and completing the clinical hours needed for certification in perinatal mental health. Emily is supervised by Lori Prado, LPC-S. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and being outdoors.
