Mayra Torres, LPC

Mayra received her Bachelor of Science degree in 2015 from Universidad La Salle Laguna. She majored in Psychology while building experience with internships in clinical, social, educational and organizational psychology. Mayra participated in several musical theater plays in her free time while she attended school. She developed her thesis project at an elementary school “The relationship between risk factors in elementary school children and the active presence of their parents.” In 2016, she was awarded her license in psychology to practice as a therapist in Mexico.

In 2017, she moved to Texas to continue her education at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She received a Master in Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a minor in Bilingual Counseling focused in Spanish. She worked at the Children’s Bereavement Center for her practicum, internship, and volunteered for an extra semester. She worked with kids from 5 to 10 years old, adolescents and parent groups. Mayra learned grief work based on Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning model as well as Play Therapy and Sand Tray work.

After earning the LPC-Associate license in Texas, she began her training in DBT while working at the Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood and Anxiety Center. She diversified her training by working with adolescents and adults struggling with different Eating Disorders as well with patients with Depression, Anxiety, OCD and Personality Disorders. She gained experience working at different levels of care, Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient  Program.

She currently is increasing her DBT experience in an Outpatient setting. While widening her interest in Complex Trauma.
