General Questions
We offer three types of therapy:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - or CBT - targets thinking patterns and how they impact emotions and behaviors. Involves weekly hour-long individual therapy sessions.
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - or DBT - targets intense emotions and related behaviors (for example, impulsiveness, relationship challenges, etc). Involves weekly 60-minute individual therapy sessions, skills groups, and phone coaching. One cycle of the skills group is 24 weeks. Typically, 2-3 cycles of the skills group are recommended.
- Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - or RO DBT - targets the inhibition of emotions and related behaviors (for example, loneliness and rigidity). Involves weekly 60-minute individual therapy sessions and 30 weeks of 120-minute skills classes.
Prices are as follows:
- $250 for intake assessment. Based on the assessment, we will recommend of a type of therapy and match you to a clinician.
- $125-185 per individual therapy session
- $65 a week for each skills group
No - we are not in-network with insurance.
However, a number of our clients submit their receipts to insurance to receive partial reimbursement from their out-of-network benefits. You can ask your insurance provider what they cover for out-of-network providers for specific services. Reach out to info@sanantoniodbtcbt.com if you need more details to have this conversation with your insurance provider.
We offer both in-person therapy and telehealth for individual therapy and groups. The decision of whether you receive in-person or telehealth services will depend on availability of providers and your personal needs and treatment targets. Some therapeutic interventions work better in person. If you have a preference, please let the therapist know at intake.
Our office is located at 3308 Broadway, Suite 201 - San Antonio, TX 78209.
Therapist licensing is done by state, so in order to receive treatment you must be physically present within the boundaries of Texas or the state in which your therapist is licensed. So, if you live out of state (or even are vacationing out of state), you would not be able to attend a therapy session with a TX-licensed therapist.
We do have some therapists licensed in other states (CO, CT, GA, NC, NY. OR, UT). Look at the Meet our Team page for information on state licensure.
We do not have a sliding scale. Individual therapy rates vary based on credentials and training of the therapists.
We are happy to provide recommendations for lower-fee options available in the San Antonio community. Please contact info@sanantoniodbtcbt.com for more information.
During our intake process, we take into account many factors, including your preferences and opinions, as well as the personality, availability, and specialties of our therapists. Based on the information you provide during the intake, your intake clinician will consult with the intake team and determine a best fit of therapy and clinician. We take great care to make sure you are matched with a provider who is well equipped for your therapeutic needs. Please remember that not all therapists have availability at all times.
Your opinion does matter. If you’ve had therapy of a particular style and have some thoughts on how that treatment impacted you or have ideas about what you’re looking for in a therapist, please share that with your assessor.
Oftentimes, insurance companies won’t provide coverage for the full duration of treatment, and we want treatment to be based on what is most helpful to you and not dictated by the insurance provider. Our treatment plans are based on research and will provide the most ethical and evidence-based care.
Private-pay therapy allows you and your therapist to have the most control over your care.
You may submit your receipts to insurance for partial reimbursement from your out-of-network benefits. We recommend calling your provider to find out how much your plan will reimburse for out-of-network services.
Questions Specific to DBT and RO DBT
Full-program DBT and RO DBT utilize skills groups. These groups are not support groups, but are more similar to classes. You will learn the behavioral skills for your particular kind of therapy, so that our individual therapy can be focused on you and applying these skills to current situations in your life.
The DBT group is 24-weeks and is typically repeated 2-3 times. The RO DBT group is a 30-week commitment.
If you have an individual therapist that is recommending you join a skills group as a supplement to therapy, you can join a skills group after an intake assessment to assure it is the right treatment for you. Email info@sanantoniodbtcbt.com to learn more about the process and prices.
Skills-only therapy, when you are not also in individual therapy, is appropriate for only a small portion of people who need a very low level of care. If you are not receiving the right amount of therapy, it can be hard to get better. An intake can help determine if skills-only therapy will be appropriate. If we determine it is appropriate, you will do 4 individual orientation sessions before joining a group. If we determine an individual therapist is needed in order to benefit from treatment, we would place you in a skills group only after you begin individual therapy at our center or elsewhere.
CBT is only individual therapy.
Research shows that DBT and RO DBT are most effective when individual and group therapies are received at the same time. Individual and group therapies teach and do different things; therefore, if you only do one mode you are only getting a part of the treatment. You may hear us call it adherent DBT or RO DBT, because we adhere to the guidelines of how the therapy should be provided based on research.
